So if you’ve had your fill of New year/ new you posts, Life lessons learned in 2016 etc etc then you’ve come to the right place. It’s back to frivolous basics here. This post is all about stuff, more specifically beauty and skincare stuff I got for Christmas!
I’ll start with most exciting to least so feel free to tune out at any point ;). TOM FORD makeup!!!! I could not have been happier to find these goodies under the tree on Christmas day. I’m not a total makeup junkie and a lot of my basics like concealer and mascara are fairly inexpensive drugstore/pharmacy brands but for other things sometimes It’s nice to get something nice. Quality (or in many cases packaging) over quantity. However it’s a very rare occasion I can justify paying that bit extra for Tom Ford over other high end brands. The best presents are things you wouldn’t normally buy for yourself. The eyeshadow palette is a quad of mattes in gorgeous neutral and brown shades called ‘Cocoa Mirage’ I am obsessed! It is beautiful to look at and so far the eyeshadows seem pigmented, buttery, & easily blendable. I would have expected nothing less at that pricepoint though. I’ll use them a lot more and give an indepth review soon!
I have had Tom Ford lipsticks in the past and they are lovely to have. Not least because they look so luxurious and pretty. My over eagerness meant the embossed TF at the top of the bullet didn’t survive long enough for me to take pics. The shade is called ‘Pink Dusk’, not surprisingly a dusky pink colour, perfect for everyday wear (or anytime wear). I won’t be using this everyday though, Tom Ford will not be coming on the school run with me.
Another exciting makeup gift is this Ombre nudes Eyeshadow palette from Becca. Granted it looks anything but exciting. A palette of matte brown shades.. yawn. (The fact that at first glance this is not too dissimilar to the Tom Ford Palette is not lost on me!) HOWEVER this has been recommended countless times by Lisa Eldridge in her videos and if it’s good enough for her… ! The quality of these is also fantastic, the colours are beautiful in person. they could even be used to fill in your brows I think.
I received Sali Hughes new book, Pretty Iconic and I’m delighted I did. I love her writing and reviews with a no nonsense approach. Each page has a large image on the right hand page with a bit about her experiences about that particular product on the left. It’s brilliant in its simplicity. Easy to navigate and also directs you towards specific products for specific things- tried and tested. I’m loving it so far.
Within Sali’s book is a page dedicated to a longtime favourite of mine- Estee Lauder advanced night repair. I always re-buy this stuff and if you haven’t tried it you really should consider it. It’s one of the few products I can always see visible results with. Fortunately my mum knows this and picked up the 100ml version for me at the airport for xmas!
I received 3 more skincare items The Alpha H liquid gold intensive night repair. I’ve had this one before a few times and it might be worth trying out. I do really like it but it’s an absolute holy grail product for my sister. I use the Apha H liquid gold sometimes and I think I prefer that for results.
I haven’t used any Liz Earle skincare other than her cleanse and polish so I’m looking forward to seeing how I get on with this superskin concentrate for night. It sounds like it will be really hydrating and hopefully it will will layer well with all ‘The Ordinary’ skincare I’m still using.
I’d love to hear if you got anything for Christmas?
