Every Christmas there are one or two special edition beauty releases that go straight to the top of christmas wishlists everywhere. This year by all accounts The Hourglass Ambient lighting edit is the one to watch! I went into Harvey Nichols in Dundrum a couple of weeks ago to have a look at it after reading a lot of online buzz and it wasn’t on display yet. I wasn’t giving up though so I asked the sales assistant about it and she said there were some in the back that wouldn’t be displayed until the launch date a few days later. She was so helpful and said she would sell it to me there and then so I didnt have to come back. In a second stroke of luck when she scanned it the price came up €10 less than it should have been, and she very kindly sold it to me for that price!
I say this was a stroke of luck because this is an eye wateringly expensive palette for the amount of product you get… €80. All hourglass products are pretty expensive, they are definitely a high end luxury product but in the full size versions of the powders you get .35 oz for €52. The full size bronzer is .39oz for €51 and the blushes are smaller with .15oz of product for €35. In the Ambient lighting edit palette each square contains only .049oz of product meaning altogether you’re getting .29oz of product for €79 (Less than one full size powder!) Not a great deal if you look at it like that.
HOWEVER, this is probably the most gorgeous makeup product I have ever seen! It’s so so pretty and anyone that’s into makeup at all would probably shriek if they unwrapped it on Christmas day. I’m a huge fan of the Ambient lighting powders and blushes. The edit comes with 3 powders (Irridescent strobe light, Diffused light and Dim light), 2 blushes (Mood exposure and luminous flush) and one bronzer in Luminous bronze. A huge advantage of a palette like this is getting to try a number of products without forking out for individuals. I had never tried the bronzers before and I will definitely buy the full size at some point. As with all the powders and blushes it gives a gorgeous luminosity to the skin- making you look awake and refreshed without being shiny or shimmery. ( Although there are a couple of the powders I would use exclusively for highlight- just a personal choice). another thing to keep in mind is you will need quite a small face brush to apply these individually. I’v been sweeping my brush across all three powders and I really like the finish it gives.
All in all I love this palette, and it’s so handy having all my face powders in one place. If you’re thinking of treating yourself or someone else to something special I can’t imagine anyone being dissappointed with this!
