Urban Decay Riff eyeshadow

imageThere has been so much hype on blogs and You Tube lately about Urban Decay Riff eyeshadow but I stayed strong and resisted buying it as it just didn’t appeal to me. It was actually my sister who jumped on the bandwagon having read the same rave reviews I did. Unfortunately for her  and €18 worse off -she hated it! She found it far too orange for her liking and felt it washed her out a bit. So she sent it my way to try out!

When I first saw it in the pan I hated the fact it had any shimmer in it at all. Especially as I was hoping to use it mostly as an easy wash over the lid on its own and I hate any shimmer in the crease. Fortunately the shimmer barely translates and it looks matte when applied. The first day I used it I applied it with a Mac 217 brush, sweeping it all over the lid and blending into the crease. I really wasn’t sure about the colour and it looked pale orange on me making me just look a bit wrecked. I played around with it over the next couple of days and eventually found the best way for me to apply it is packed on with my finger on the lid and then blended up into the crease with a blending brush. (It requires a good bit of blending to look it’s best) I also think it looks gorgeous under the eyes. I’ve found myself reaching for this every day since I got it so I thought it worthy of a blog post! I have hazel green eyes and it really complements them well. It doesn’t make the colour pop as much as reddish or purply shades do on me but it still looks really pretty. I think this kind of colour looks incredible on people with blue eyes though. Rosie Connolly was one of the first people I heard raving about this and everyone wanted it then because it looked amazing with her eye colour.

I’ve also tried this as a transitional blending shade  and it works beautifully with brown and plum shades. I love Mac uninterrupted for this but  they’ve discontinued it 🙁

All in all after a rocky start this shade  has really grown on me . It’s so unique and I don’t own anything else quite like it so although it’s not cheap for a single eyeshadow I think it’s worth it. My sister won’t be getting it back anytime soon 😉

Its sold out on feel unique and Debenhams.iebut it’s available in store

If you’ve tried this I’d love to hear what you think of it !
